Potty Training 101

I figured I would start potty-training Adam last week. Because, you know, I haven't done that yet. I just had a baby, get off my back! Well, that was my excuse last year, it's not my fault that time passes so quickly. Really, I blame Plain Jane. I couldn't let all those free diapers go to waste! Can you believe we STILL haven't finished them all? Three months supply my ass. It's been six months and I just opened the last case. Don't they say not to attempt it during holidays? Or in winter or something? Shut up, I know there's a good reason deep down somewhere.

Anyway, my potty-training preparation consisted of purchasing a package of pull-ups and washing the Diego underwear Santa so kindly brought, oh, five months ago.

And that was about it.

Adam asked to wear the underpants on Thursday and he's pretty much been using the toilet ever since. He even wipes himself and washes his hands thoroughly. I pretty much haven't had to do a thing which is exactly how my lazy soul likes it.

The key to successful potty training? Wait until your kid gets tired of waiting on you to show him. He'll get it eventually, why knock yourself out?

Now, who's going to take the pacifier away from him?

You suck. That tactic is not working here. However, we did get rid of the pacifier about a month ago right after Owen turned 3, so neener neener. However, I'd rather have a potty-trained nuk-sucker than a nuk-free diaper-pants.

You should write a book.

Wow! Nice job, girl! I'm very impressed. I dread potty-training. And I don't even have kids yet.

I hope to hell that's how potty training goes for us. I keep fighting to put it off so we don't have to have a long drawn out battle, but the toddler keeps insisting she wants to potty. Only she NEVER potties. She just sits on the pot. Ugh.

Good luck with the paci. I took that sucker away at 12 months so I could avoid all the drama. Thank goodness I did one thing right.

I heart you. Why? Because I agree.

I'm so bloody jealous it isn't even funny. 2&3 are so very very very very contrary. Underwear doesn't faze them. *sigh*

I'm jealous that you haven't had to buy diapers for 6 months!!!

Well, I've still bought diapers for Elizabeth, she's still in size 2, but not having to buy them for TWO children has been awesome.

See now... that is the exact same potty training method I used! No stress... no pressure. Zoe was just beyond ready and was about to yell at me for not providing underwear. She just about potty trained herself.

And... let me know if you figure out how to get rid of the pacifier!

I kid you not....consult with the Farmer's Almanac on when to take the paci or bottle or anything like that. My Grandaddy swore by it and I scoffed at him. Then in desperation I consulted with the last two kids. Made my life so much easier. I promise promise promise. I had a kid who had the best love affair going on with his paci....did the date the F.A. said and did not have the first problem.

I'm just saying.

My lovely husband took all my daughter's pacifiers & cut them while she was napping, except for the one she had in her mouth. As hard as it was, a bottle of wine & 3 years later, I think we are finally getting over it. That last pacifier is hanging on our Christmas tree every year.

Yay Adam! And yay mom, too! Good luck on the paci! We had a tough time with this one. My daughter would sneak the baby's when we weren't looking.
