This Post is Gross

Can you think of anything worse than cleaning up vomit?

How about cleaning up vomit everytime you get in the car?

Apparently, Elizabeth gets car sick.

Last week when she spewed orange chunks all over Jacob after we'd retrieved him from school, I figured she had a stomach bug and limited her meals to bananas and toast and bright red pedialyte most of the weekend. When she yakked again yesterday, I thought maybe she still had a touch of the bug. This morning when I caught her in the rearview mirror spraying the back car seat as if she were auditioning for the remake of The Exorcist, I was going through the list of all possible deadly puking illnesses because, dang, that just ain't right! Salmonella? We haven't been around any dirty amphibians lately. E. Coli? She doesn't eat meat. Reflux? Again? Oh no! Please not the reflux again. Then Adam started crying, "Sissy is car sick Mommy....Sissy bummetted all ober me"

Duh. She's car sick. Is that even possible? Can babies get car sick? I've never heard of anything like that. But, she's only sick when we're in the car. Isn't that the definition of car sick? UGH.

You do realize we are in the car twice a day, right?

Do you know how much fun it is to scrub your child, your car seat, and your car twice a day?

Do you know how lucky you are to be driving a car that doesn't smell like Gerber bananas vomit?

I don't know what to do about this. She's only sixteen pounds so I can't turn the seat around yet. Does anyone else have car sick children? If so, spill it. And if you could give me some tips in the next hour before I have to get in the car again, it would be much appreciated.

Let's see....no sleep, tantrums in public, lots and lots of vomit. Refresh my memory. Parenting is lots of fun how?

Ugh. That sucks. For you AND for Elizabeth. I get car sick, but I am an adult and I know how to deal with it.

My girlfriend's daughter gets carsick and the best thing they do for her is have her wear a plastic bib thing to catch any spewage.

My best assvice would be to talk with your doctor or the nurses for any hints they might have.

And good luck!

16 lbs! Brendan is 2 months younger and just weighed in at 22 big ones. Whoa!

No tips for the car sickness. Sorry. I hear ya on cleaning vomit out of the dang car, it's the worst. Brendan's done it a few times, and each time he manages to make himself a champion out of it- getting every inch of the damn backseat.

Talk to the doctor about it??

The joy a mother receives when her teenage son tells her to F*** off is the big payoff. NOT!

Why would she start getting carsick all of a sudden? Has anything changed in the van besides the smell?

It sounds terrible and I hate puke too. I'm gonna make such a terrific nurse...

Sorry. No idea.

I was very car sick as a child, but seeing that we grew up with no electricity and no indoor plumbing, we didn't have to worry about getting in the car/vehicle/bus very much. Our means of transportation method was via our parents' beat-up bicycles. Anyway. Hopefully you've talked to your pediatrician about this already and she/he has some good suggestions for you.

Have you tried fixating a toy or mirror of some sort immediately in front of her? Distract her with cookies every time? A new little tiny toy every time? Some sort of distraction? I can't think of anything else. :( Sorry.

Fiona was very tiny too..

Ugh, no advice. I DO know what it is like to ride around in a perpetually stinky car though. And, I'm secretly glad to hear E is only 16 lbs. Sadie is just under 16 lbs. and has been diagnosed with Failure To Thrive :(. So, we are looking into possible reasons why.

BTW, I've tagged you, hope you don't mind. See my blog for details. In your copious amounts of spare time!!

Dang. That's gotta suck.

I can't ride backwards, either. Even looking back to the kids from the front seat makes me woozy.

I had to turn my middle kid around a tad early because she got a little green when riding. You should be able to go to your local EMS and ask them. I know my ex works for EMS and they have a person who helps with car seat issues. They've had to turn around car seats early due to this issue and believe it or not, they use the noodles (pool toy) to secure car seats. Might be worth a shot?
