The Blind Leading the Blind

I need some help...

no real help, not mental help....

I want lasik surgery. I have tossed this thought into the air about twice a year for the past ten, or however long it's been that lasik surgery has been fashionable, but now that I can no longer read any numbers on my hugongozoid night stand clock and have to stop to take my glasses off when I want to show my kid how to duck his head under water in the pool, I have crossed over into SERIOUSLY considering it. The problem is, I am scared to DEATH of doing it. I mean, what if I went BLIND or something. I am a hypochondriac of the highest degree and be sure if it could happen, it could happen to me, dontcha know. So what I am asking is this:

Has anyone been through this procedure? If you have, did you survive it with eyesight in tact? Is there pain involved? If so, how would you rate it in comparison to say, a complicated c-section? Will they give me a scrip for vicodin with it because, seriously, I am low. Fill my head with knowledge people because I have decisions to make! Details..details....

Okay, I haven't had it myself but my father has. He had no complications and is so glad he did it. I did go for a consultation and would gladly do it if I had the required $4,500! I have horribly bad eyesight (20/2000) and was told that's why it would cost so much. Let us know what you decide. Good luck!

My sister in law had it done last year and had no problems - was home and listening to audiobooks right after(not suppose to read or watch tv following procedure) and was 100% okay...she said it was the best thing she's done for herself...

I haven't had it done either but my brother and a close friend of mine both did and they are absolutely pleased with the results, wish they would have done it years ago, etc. I'd be scared too, though!

I haven't had it done, for the same reason you write about...FEAR! I have a couple of friends that have done it and they're pleased, but I'm worried about the long term affects.

Let me know if you decide to do it!

My husband had it done. Kind of on a whim. I had put money into a flex spending account for my pregnancy. However we ended up not needing it all. So he went and had it done. Its neat to see the benefits of it. Its the little things like waking up in the middle of the night and being able to see, or that he can go swimming with me now. I would recomend it to anyone. However I saw the procedure done and don't know if I could handle it myself....but I guess the give you good drugs and it doesn't matter.

Go for it! I haven't had it done but I've yet to hear of someone who regretted it. I understand you're probably frightened to death to have something done to your eyeballs, but I'm sure you'd be so happy in the long run!

Friend of and Mom of OneHung had it done. Both were legally blind before the surgery...the friend's eyesight was truly horrific. He couldn't read the big ass green signs on the highway that have a font size of a bazillion.

Now, neither Friend of nor Mom of OneHung wear glasses. OneHung's understanding is no pain involved, just a little bit of "pressure." It's also OneHung's understanding that the mouth and eyes are two of the fastest healing parts of the anatomy.

If you can afford it, it seems to be very worthwhile.
